Kundalini

What is Kundalini Yoga?

Kundalini yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice for developing strength, awareness, character, and consciousness. It is one of the most efficient ways to combat the stresses of our modern world.

What is a Kundalini class like?

Your class consists of three main elements. You begin the class with a short chant and a few light stretches to warm up the spine. Next, you will engage in what is called a Kriya (a specific set of postures) that will target a particular part of the body; a short relaxation; and then an 11 minute meditation that may include chanting, breath sequences and  specific hand positions. Every class can be different, as there are hundreds of different kriyas and meditations. Although some classes may seem more challenging, you are encouraged to pace yourself, listen to what your body is saying, and honour what level or capability you are at. Progress will be made at any level.

Do I need to be super flexible?

Not at all! Start from where you are at, accept your own skill level, and grow from there. During class, focus on your own self-awareness. After your class is over, if you need some tips from your teacher on how to deepen your practice, they will be happy to share their advice.

Do I need to believe in God/be religious to practice Kundalini?

No, you don’t. This incredible practice is available, and beneficial, to people of all ages and belief systems. Kundalini yoga is a tool for you to use to clear out the negativity, stress, and imbalance in your life to uncover your joy.

The technology of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a science of the mind and body, to elevate the spirit, which has no boundaries, no discrimination. Therefore it is for everyone, universal and nondenominational.

What if I’ve never done yoga before? Is there a beginner’s class?

Don’t worry – you don’t need any experience to participate in any of our yoga classes.  You can attend any class and follow along at your own pace. It’s also a good idea to let the teacher know that you’re new to the practice before class starts. We also offer a weekly Introduction to Kundalini class, where more detailed information about each posture is given.

What do I need to bring?
